A few months ago we launched EdelsonMcGuire.com, a Chicago based law firm with offices in Florida, New York and Los Angeles. The firm practices class actions, “bet the company” cases, political and legal consulting and Labor law.

The main objective of the website was to depict EdelsonMcGuire as much more than just lawyers in a courtroom, but as a group of smart, talented tech-savvy people with diverse personalities and interests beyond the legal profession.

With that basic goal we created a design strategy and established a creative platform for representing each lawyer as a ‘stat card’ and put a fun and interesting twist on it. Each lawyer was asked to fill out a questionnaire in as much detail as they wished to give, the responses were overwhelming and helped shape content structure and overall design direction.

Another goal of the site was to capture the pulse of the general public. We accomplished that by creating two features to accompany each featured case. By taking keywords from each case, the site does a daily search on specific blogs and returns relevant blog posts to the feature case page. Similarly the site also pulls relevant tweets from twitter to show the constant discuss about these cases.

The site was build in HTML, CSS and Javscript. All the asynchronous loading and animation is jQuery and the entire site was developed within the Python framework using the open source software Django.

We first redesigned Vision On back in 2006. After a successful 3 year run, we were asked to top it. Our client expressed that search engine optimization and a robust content management system was a key business objective for the re-design.

With a new goal of increased visibility we set out on a path to bring Vision On’s main marketing vehicle up to date. Building on our experience with the client and the photography, retouching & digital capture industry we set out to create a new website that met his goals.

Our team of design and developers focused on clean modern design, with easy to use navigation and search engine optimization. Django was used as the framework to establish a new architecture for which we will continue to build upon.

A few months later we successfully launched the new website and have shifted our attention designing and developing new marketing programs to fit within the website.

Hired by Lock & Mane, FRESHTHRILLS was tasked with developing brand identity for the new luxury hair care product company. Our challenge was to develop a sophisticated identity to introduce the Lock & Mane brand as an online destination for the best hair products available.

To accomplish this we called upon our experience in developing identity and websites for start ups and established companies and turned that knowledge into cohesive body of work that achieved our clients goals.

The 6 month long process took us from the creative brief, initial sketches to a full-fledged e-commerce website experience. The website launched with great success and we’re continuing to improve and build upon the creative and technology platform we’ve established.

It’s an annual tradition, which began long, long ago: The spread of holiday cheer to everyone you know. A celebration, if you will, of a good year that’s past and the hopes for an even better one to come. But this year we found ourselves wondering how we could spread holiday cheer during a time when cheer was in short supply. This was the year where it seemed like bad news was everywhere; Unemployment hit an almost all-time high, and morale, an all-time low. Advertising spending went down, unemployment benefits, up. We knew it was bad when even the president admitted that not only were we approaching a recession, but we were deep smack in the middle of one. “This bites!” a voice yelled.

And from there…an idea was born.

We drew our creative inspiration from the depression era. For typography, we wanted to evoke a no frills, tough times feeling, and after reviewing a few options we decided on a typeface called Memphis as the primary font for the identity. Memphis is a classic Slabserif designed in 1930 by Rudolf Wolf.

Graphically, we drew our inspiration from the age-old newspaper headline design, with the use of double ruled lines and justified text. For packaging, we stayed true to our “no-frills” concept, using leftover assets from previous projects. Thus, the Recession Bites “brand” was established.

We tasked our copywriter with creating a language that acknowledged the difficulties of the past year, yet showed our upbeat and playful mentality towards the future. Poking fun at both recession era language and recent events, we created copy that matched the aesthetic look of our design with tongue-in-cheek wordplay.

From the start we felt that it was important to find a way to reduce waste, but as with any print project, we printed dozens of designs, most of which were printed and discarded. When it came time to pack and ship our Recession Bites, rather than create more waste we shredded the rejected designs, and thus got our packing material. Not only did this add a great finishing touch to the Recession Bites concept, it also helped to make it our greenest project to date, something we hope to continue to do for the future.

Oh yes, the “bites.”, Chocolate truffles made fresh by our team. Consisting of an Oreo center and covered with dark chocolate, they were topped with a green icing made from white chocolate and candy canes.
